Investment summary

Volt has lodged its Environmental and Social Impact Statement for its Tanzanian Bunyu graphite project. The company has also raised A$4.7m, via exercise of 235.6m options at A$0.02 each, which will be used for general working capital purposes, including the completion of its totally re-scoped feasibility study on Bunyu. This study will comprise a phased development approach to allow Bunyu graphite product supply to pace correctly with increasing global demand. The main growth markets for graphite are fire-retardants and as a major ingredient in a wide array of battery technologies, including the dominant lithium-ion type used widely within the automotive industry. Volt has secured critical funding to complete its feasibility study, as well as appointed Exotix Capital to complete a US$40m bond issue to complete Bunyu Phase 1 construction.

Industry outlook

Volt expects this bond issue to be concluded by end Q118. We note the current investment environment in Tanzania surrounding recent media reports concerning gold and diamond producers in the country, and also that these issues surround precious metals and diamonds and are not concerned with the industrial minerals sector and, by extension, graphite production.
