Management defines four strategic pillars: (1) great-tasting freshly prepared food; (2) the best customer experience; (3) competitive supply chain; and (4) first-class support teams. In this interview Richard Hutton, Finance Director reviews the ongoing strategic change process for the retail estate, product range and supply chain. He discusses how Greggs has managed the contrasting trading challenges of the current trading year and reflects on how strategy may develop into the future.

Executive Interview - Carr’s Milling Industries

Carr’s Milling Industries’ Agriculture division serves farmers in the north of England, the Borders and Scotland, the US, Germany and New Zealand. The Food division mills flour in the UK. The Engineering division offers remote handling equipment and fabrications to the global nuclear industry. CEO Tim Davies comments on another record set of results with a strong performance across each of the three divisions. He explores how the geographic and operational diversity of the Agriculture division enabled it to grow profits in the absence of the harsh UK winter weather that had benefited the previous year’s results. He discusses the highly positive impact on performance in the Food division of opening a new port-side mill in Kirkcaldy, totally vindicating management’s decision to invest £17m in a state-of-the-art facility there. He describes how the Engineering division is positioned for future growth with the investment in production facilities at the Wälischmiller site in Germany and the acquisition of Tyneside-based Chirton Engineering.
